The October 25, 2026 puzzle ran from a concert flute at 67 cm to a concert grand piano at 2.7 m — about 4× apart, drawing on music. The pair furthest apart was round 1: a cello is about 1.7× smaller than a US interior door.
Answer: Cello — 1.2 m. A cello measures 1.2 m (height), which is about 1.7× smaller than the reference, a US interior door at 2 m.
The body accounts for about 76 cm — the rest is neck and endpin.
Common miss: players tend to inflate a cello when it sits beside a US interior door — big things get squeezed, small familiar things get stretched.
Answer: Concert Flute — 67 cm. A concert flute measures 67 cm (length / span), which is almost exactly the same size as the reference, a French baguette at 65 cm.
Played sideways, which makes its 67 cm read much smaller on stage.
Common miss: players tend to compress a concert flute when it sits beside a French baguette — big things get squeezed, small familiar things get stretched.
Answer: Concert Tuba — 1 m. A concert tuba measures 1 m (height), which is almost exactly the same size as the reference, an acoustic guitar at 1 m.
Up to 5.5 m of tubing, wrapped into about a metre of instrument.
Common miss: players tend to inflate a concert tuba when it sits beside an acoustic guitar — big things get squeezed, small familiar things get stretched.
Answer: Drum Kit — 1.5 m. A drum kit measures 1.5 m (length / span), which is 1.2× as big as the reference, a 55-inch television at 1.2 m.
Kit width is set by the bass drum and how far the drummer’s arms can reach.
Common miss: players tend to compress a drum kit when it sits beside a 55-inch television — big things get squeezed, small familiar things get stretched.
Answer: Concert Grand Piano — 2.7 m. A concert grand piano measures 2.7 m (length / span), which is 1.2× as big as the reference, a three-seat sofa at 2.2 m.
A concert grand can be more than 2.7 metres long.
Common miss: players tend to compress a concert grand piano when it sits beside a three-seat sofa — big things get squeezed, small familiar things get stretched.
